United by Phrenology

Phrenology was the belief that ones way of thinking could be determined simply by the shape of ones skull. We all have this romantic notion that we are all free thinking individuals but deep down all our actions are motivated by the same basic instincts. We truly want what everyone else wants

A Bloody Ransom

Here is the first little drawing for my new series where I am working backwards from frame to artwork. This gesture of sending someones finger is a very powerful way of sending a message. If you received one there would be no doubt that all your attention would be focused on what is being said.

New Drawing Series

For this next series I draw inspiration from a principle used by street artists. A work of street art is something that is born from the environment that surrounds it. It talks of the immediate world around them and points out things that a person would normally miss. I bring this idea of creating work that relates to the world around them with the help of frames. I have found some random picture frames and working backwards I plan to create drawings that relate to these frames somehow. The frames create the art much like a street artist using the world around them to create a piece.

p.s. Sadly I cannot scan in the frames that accompany the work so the drawings shall have to be viewed by themselves, but one can always view these drawings in their frames up close and in person at my studio :)

119 A Prarie Dog Companion

I went out to the pawnee grasslands yesterday. I was all alone with not another human in sight. It was very peacefull to be able to see for miles in the horizon without a trace of another human being. I did see many prarie dog hole but no prarie dogs strangely enough

117 Crown of Frivolity

Ornate hats that mean nothing. One becomes a noble if they declare themselves such and if they have enough money to back it up...

114 Doughnut Monster

It is one of the toughest creatures to fight off. This monster has become my arch nemesis. Back in the day this creature and I were the best of friends.

112 Blooming Ideas

Sometimes the ideas come out of my head out of nowhere like flowers in spring. They bloom suddenly and are everywhere. Lately though I feel as if I am in the depth of winter. No flowers just snow.

111 Complexity of an Individual

If we could wear all of our experiences and stories on our faces I imagine that this is what it would look like.

108 Texan Octopus

Today's drawing is inspired but my friend Elena. She is a fellow artist and we recently did an artwork trade and this is what resulted from the artwork she gave me. She is a phenomenal artist and I am very proud to have one of her works and that it has influenced todays drawing in some ways :)

107 Wild Thing Within Me

I just saw the preview for Maurice Sendak's "Where the Wild Things Are". I just had to draw something of this. I love the book and the movie looks like it does a great job with the story and the look. Tonight's drawing is done in ball point pen in order to honor the nice cross hatching and delicate lines of Sendak's illustrative style.

Third Friday Night Gallery Walk Success

It seemed like more people came down this month than last but that is not saying much :P It was a personal success because I did sell a tiki god tea cup. A shamaan bought it or at least that is what the lady told me she was. We all had a sneaking suspicion that she was drunk or high on something more than life. Well a sale is a sale and she said that the gods directed her there and that she was super famous. So this could turn out into something big in the future eh.

104 Tired Old Tree

I decided to go all out and fill the bark of this tree. It adds a lovely pattern and gives it a very crunchy texture. The canopy is left blank for the drawing would become too busy if I added leaves. :)

102 Dont Sweat It

This is going to be a sweatshop worker that will be part of a piece of art that I am working on. There will be multiple of this character contributing to the scene and I hope to bring you the work here shortly :D

Nesting Doll Panel Series

I have been really intrigued by nesting dolls lately. They lend themselves to many things. The panels are just a launching point for actual nesting doll paintings that I plan on doing. I hope that you enjoy this one :D

94 A Hole in the Head Lets Evil Things in

Doctors used to drill holes in peoples heads to let the demons out. I think that a hole in the head would make you more susceptible to demon infections...
